DAN LYONS GARGOYLE

Escaping the squalor of South London in favour of fresh sea air and considerably cheaper rent, former Fat White Family member and Phobophobes drummer Dan Lyons' first substantial solo effort is an oddly heart-warming indie-pop ballad by the name of 'Gargoyle'. Exploring themes of childhood innocence contrasted against the oppressiveness of city life, 'Gargoyle' is a rare gem of accomplished songwriting that feels worlds away from unadulterated sleaze of his previous projects. Roping in old friends Katia Ganfield and Lou Smith to create some equally excellent visuals, the video for 'Gargoyle' was shot on location at The Walpole Bay Hotel in Margate, providing a blurry sense of elegance, before swiftly descending into weirdness. -Holly Mullineaux
